Privacy Policy

The short version: this site runs no analytics, sets no cookies of its own, has no mailing list, and has comments switched off. We do not know who you are and we have no way to find out.

That is unusual enough that it is worth stating plainly rather than burying it under boilerplate. The rest of this page is the honest detail — including the three third parties that do see your IP address when a page loads, because pretending otherwise would make this document worthless.

What we do not collect

  • No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no Google Tag Manager, no Meta pixel, and no other measurement script on this site. We cannot see your visit.
  • No cookies set by us. Loading a page here sets no cookie from this domain.
  • No accounts, no newsletter, no forms. There is nowhere on this site to enter your name, email address or any other detail, so we hold none.
  • No comments. Commenting is closed site-wide, so no comment data, IP or email is stored.
  • No advertising network. No ad code runs here, so there is no behavioural ad profiling from this site.

One consequence worth knowing: we cannot tell you what data we hold about you, because we hold none that identifies you.

What does happen when you load a page

Server and CDN logs

This site is served through Cloudflare, which sits in front of our hosting. Like any web server, Cloudflare and our host process the technical details necessary to deliver a page: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser’s user-agent string and the referring page. Cloudflare may set a security cookie such as __cf_bm to distinguish humans from bots. These records exist for delivery, security and abuse prevention, and are retained on Cloudflare’s and our host’s own schedules. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Google Fonts

Pages load three typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. This means Google receives your IP address and user-agent on every page view. We get nothing from this and we cannot see it. If that matters to you, a font-blocking extension or a browser that blocks third-party requests will stop it; the site remains fully readable. Gravatar

The author image on article pages is served from secure.gravatar.com, operated by Automattic, which means Automattic also receives your IP address when that image loads. See Automattic’s privacy policy.

Amazon affiliate links

Some pages link to Amazon. Nothing is sent to Amazon until you click one. When you do, Amazon receives that you arrived from us via our tag agingparentrescue-20 and will set its own cookies to attribute any purchase. From that point you are on Amazon’s site under Amazon’s terms, and we receive only aggregate, anonymous commission reports — never your name, your address or what you bought as an identifiable person. Amazon publishes its own privacy notice on amazon.com; we deliberately do not link it from this page, because a plugin on this site automatically appends our affiliate tag to any amazon.com link, and a legal notice is not something we will monetise.

How this site is stored in your browser

The light/dark theme switch stores your choice in your browser’s local storage under the key dz-theme. It never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your site data removes it.

Children

This site is written for adults arranging care for an older relative. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. Since we collect nothing identifying from anyone, there is nothing to delete — but if you believe otherwise, write to us.

Your rights in California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to have it deleted, to correct it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

To be accurate about our situation: we do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not collect the categories of personal information that would make a “do not sell” request meaningful. We hold no identifiers, no commercial records, no biometric data, no geolocation beyond what is in a routine server log, and no inferences drawn about you. There is therefore nothing for us to sell and no profile to delete. You may still make a request and we will answer it honestly.

Your rights in the EU and UK (GDPR)

If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to complain to your supervisory authority.

Our only processing is the technical log data described above, and the legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in delivering the site securely and preventing abuse. We do not process special category data and we make no automated decisions about you.

You should know two things honestly. First, because we hold nothing that identifies you, an access or erasure request to us will return nothing — the meaningful requests are to Cloudflare, Google and Automattic, who actually hold the log entries. Second, those transfers are to the United States. If you are in the EU or UK and you object to your IP address reaching Google, blocking third-party requests in your browser is a faster and more complete remedy than writing to us.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that collects data — analytics, an email list, an ad network — this page will be updated before that change goes live, and the date below will change. We will not add tracking quietly.
