Round or Elongated? Measure Before You Buy a Riser

Toilet risers, safety frames and bidet attachments are all made for a specific bowl shape. They look nearly identical in listings. They are not interchangeable.
Measure from the centre of the seat bolts to the front edge of the bowl. About 16.5″ is round; about 18.5″ is elongated.

Take the measurement properly
Bolts to front rim, along the centre line, with the seat down. Do not measure the seat — seats overhang and will mislead you by an inch.
What “universal” really means
Some risers genuinely fit both, usually by clamping inside the bowl rather than gripping the rim. They are a safe default when you cannot get to the bathroom to measure — but check the phrase is “fits round and elongated”, not just “universal fit”, which is used loosely.
While you have the tape out
Also note floor-to-seat height. If it is around 15″ you have a standard toilet and a riser will help; if it is already 17–19″ you have a comfort-height toilet and the problem is probably something to hold, not something to sit higher on.
