People read this as “up to a 250-pound user”. It is not. It is a load test simulating a sudden fall, and someone weighing far less than 250 pounds can put more than that through a bar in the instant they lose their footing.
You are buying the anchor, not the bar
Almost any stainless bar sold for the purpose will pass the test on its own. The failure is always the wall. A rated bar on plastic wall plugs is an unrated installation.

Bars marketed above 250 lbf exist and are worth it for a heavier user — but the rating only holds if the anchoring is upgraded to match. A 500 lb bar on a 250 lb anchor is a 250 lb installation.
